Smart Glasses that Treat Lazy Eye in Kids

Poco is a pair of smart glasses that help treat Amblyopia (lazy eye) in children age 4-8. They work by dimming one lens to force the brain to use the weaker eye. There is an app that the parents can use to track usage and schedule treatment times. The app also allows the child to play games that strengthen the eye.

Kids feel uncomfortable and embarrassed with current treatments. They need a treatment that will empower them.

Parents want to make sure their kid is on track to treat this disability while also making sure they are happy.

The doctor would like a better way to track their patients as they usually only see them once every 3 months.

The secondary caretaker like a teacher or nanny must be able to aide the child follow treatment in an easy way.

A Discreet and Innovative Solution 

Unlike patching, these glasses blend in and do not embarrass the child. This is just one of many ways to empower the child and make them feel more comfortable with the treatment and more willing to cooperate with it.

Children can play videos games to train their eye! Research shows that playing video games which require a lot of concentration and focus make the eye work harder than daily use of the eyes.

Help Poco the Parrot fly up the tree to his nest by completing challenges and games while using the glasses!

Gameify Amblyopia Treatment

Games like Tetris and Pong require a lot of focus and eye tracking which trains the eye much more than daily viewing.

Gain Points and get Rewarded

To encourage kids to use the glasses more, points and rewards are given when games are played and challenges are completed.

Compete with your Friends

Poco creates a community of kids with Amblyopia. They can compete with each other through points and games.

Poco App for Parents

The Poco app can also be used by parents through a separate password protected login. Parents will be able to monitor the glasses and see how their child is using them. They will also be able to reach out to their doctor and other parents in the community.

I thought through all possible configurations for the electronics while considering ergonomic factor like weight distribution and size.

I designed the hinges by modeling them and printing them using an elastic resin so that I could test the flexibility

The arms were designed using a combination of sketching and blue foam modeling to test details like button placement.

Branding

Poco means little in Spanish and also relates to the product while being very easy to pronounce for kids. The logo resembles a smiling face.
